Bradley at 6 Months │ Norfolk Baby Photographer

About a week ago I was contacted by Chasity to photograph her son’s 6 month memories. She wanted to have them done as soon as possible and thankfully,  I had a day open for her and little Bradley. Chasity let me know some things that were important to her and from there I started to form some ideas for the session to document Bradley at 6 months. I’m beginning to think 6 month baby photography is my favorite!

Chasity told me of Bradley’s best friend, Zeus, who is a 16 week on Husky. I was already thinking of ideas of how to incorporate Zeus into Bradley’s shots. I knew this would be something important as they are both growing together and the images from this session will be forever memories of the both of them at this tiny age.

Upon arriving at their home, I was greeted by Zeus and I instantly wanted a puppy. So full of life and care free; too darn cute. Then, I met Bradley, an absolutely adorable and extremely happy baby boy. I knew this session was going to be a breeze, and it was. Bradley was so easy to make smile and laugh. Now, it’s the hard part. Every image of him is adorable, which makes my job of choosing images  a tough one.

I loved working with Bradley and his family. I was able to incorporate things that meant a lot to them and their family in their session. I also learned they are from Tennessee, and are from a town not too far from where my husband grew up. Small world! Meeting people from my home state always makes Virginia feel a little more like home. Even after 4 years of being here, I still wish for the hills of Tennessee.

Zeus had the challenge of sitting still, but he definitely gave me some adorable shots of him and Bradley. I have saved the best for Bradley’s private gallery. Bradley has the most beautiful blue eyes I have photographed to date. They are to die for and I did not have to enhance his eyes in any image from his session; seriously perfect! Bradley loved the Red rocking chair, and he looked so adorable in it!

Bradley loves his feet and toes, and so do I! Sometimes I think there is nothing cuter than little baby piggies. I die every time I look at these shots. He’s just too cute for words.

The flag means a lot to Chasity and her family as it was the flag draped over her grandfather’s casket. I was very timid when she said she wanted to use it; it was brought out still folded. Thankfully, her husband was there and he helped me handle it. Honestly, I think it worked perfectly for the images and the images will hold even more meaning to their family.

You can’t be a Tennessee boy and not have a little Farmer in you. The backdrop just recently came in and I was ecstatic to be able to use it for Bradley’s session, and I can’t wait to use it again. SO cute!

Zoey and Mommy │ Mommy & Me Photographer

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of getting Melissa and Zoey in front of my lens for a Mommy & Me session. When Zoey and Mommy stepped out of their vehicle, my first thought was, “How cute!”. They were wearing the cutest coordinating, but super matchy-matchy outfits.

Little Miss and I immediately hit it off. Usually children, especially two year olds, are very shy when I first meet them. When I asked Zoey if she was ready to get some pictures, it was an immediate, “Yes!” with a smile.

I quickly learned that Zoey is destined to be a runner, and a fast one at that. I definitely got my exercise yesterday! Another reason I love the Chesapeake Arboretum, it’s a smaller area with plenty of room for a 2 year old to safely run around. From being fascinated with the squirrels, to looking at the flowers, to wanting to play with the camera, Zoey was full of curiosity. So, with my assistance, and a good grip on my camera, I let Zoey snap a few shots of her gorgeous momma! I think Zoey is a Photographer in training. It took a few out of focus shots, a shot of the grass and a blown out sky (completely white shot) for us to get the shots. Completely worth it to see how excited she was when she got to see the images of her mother on the back of the camera.

These are the shots Zoey captured of Melissa with my assistance with focusing and holding the camera.

I was a bit worried about the weather. As I was getting ready to head to the location, I noticed several dark rain clouds rolling in. I crossed my fingers and headed out the door. According to my weather app, there was not supposed to be any rain! About 10 minutes from the location, and it started sprinkling. I called Melissa and we decided to chance the weather. I’m so glad we did! We felt a couple sprinkles here and there, but they held off long enough for us to chase Zoey around and get some adorable shots.

Zoey was so curious and wanted to check everything out. We let her control where we went, and what we looked at. She had me laughing the whole time. I think she about gave a couple squirrels a heart attack. As of yesterday, I believe squirrels can fly- and not just Flying Squirrels.

With Mother’s day quickly approaching, I’m gaining lots of interest in Mommy and Me sessions. I love seeing parents interacting with their children one on one, both Mommy and Me and Daddy and Me sessions. I hope to capture memories for other families as I have for Melissa and Zoey. One thing I have learned from my 3 years as a photographer, nearly 4 years as an Aunt, and 23 years as a big sister: Time flies and everyone grows up. Capture these moments now- full of life, curiosity, smiles, laughter and fun. These are the memories we can keep for a lifetime.

Isaiah 6 Months │Norfolk Baby Photographer

Isaiah Newborn

Isaiah Newborn: Less than 1 week old

It seems like just yesterday I was photographing Isaiah as a newborn. Time sure does fly. Isaiah is now 6 months old and is even more adorable.

Isaiah’s 6 month session was my 3rd session with his family. I have helped create maternity, newborn and now 6 month memories his family will always be able to look back on. Creating memories- My absolute favorite part of my job. My second favorite part? Being invited to watch families and babies grow. I’m already spinning ideas around in my head for Isaiah’s 1 year session.

Time definitely flies. Every time I see a newborn I’ve had in front of my lens, I’m always shocked at how much and how fast they have grown.

Isaiah is now sitting up, he has the most adorable laugh and  is one cute chunky little man.

Every session, I try to do something different. I brainstorm ideas, and once I am sold on something, I make it happen. For Isaiah, I wanted to make him a Super hero. BUT, you cannot have a superhero without his alter ego, right? I was going to do a “nerdy” baby for Isaiah. However, I misread the measurements on a tiny pair of glasses and they will not work with a baby older than 3 months. And, I started to feel like the nerd theme was being overused and I wanted something different. Let’s just say, Etsy gets me in trouble. Isaiah’s session was full of Etsy finds. I’ll just let to photos show you what we did.

Isaiah was so much fun to work with. I just couldn’t wait to get home to download the images from my camera. By far my favorite infant session to date, even if getting him to smile wasn’t so easy!

Be sure to keep checking in on my Facebook page for the video slideshow of Isaiah’s session. :D
